OVERVIEW

All praise belongs to Allah. The Muslim in Transit Scholarship Fund was established by author Mohammed Qamruzzaman as a way to foster deep thinking, love of justice, peace, and reform amongst Muslim college students.  In 2016, Qamruzzaman authored a memoir/educational text titled Muslim in Transit. His goal is to help Muslims consider the ways we have left Islam and to return.

ELIGIBILITY

The $500 scholarship goes to six students. Please note the number of awards is dependent on the number of applications.

1-15 Applicants in English or Urdu: 1 award worth $500
16-30 Applicants in English or Urdu: 2 awards worth $500 each
31-45 Applicants in English or Urdu: 3 awards worth $500 each

3 scholarships will be awarded to students who responded in Urdu and three will go students who chose to respond in English.

Other criteria include:

• Must be an undergraduate student, a graduate student or a postgraduate student OR must be in the process of pursuing an academic degree (applying to college, masters, vocational, Islamic school or a doctorate degree)
• Must speak English or Urdu
• Both full-time and part-time students are eligible

AWARD

The award is worth $500. The scholarship winner(s) will be determined by a selection committee.  Funds can be used to purchase:

• Educational expenses
• Electronics
• Islamic book

HOW TO APPLY

This application has 3 steps:

1) Read the book, Muslim in Transit. You can also order it from Amazon.com

2) Create a 5-10 minute response touching on the following questions:

• What false beliefs do you see the Ummah following?  What would you suggest if you had the power to make changes?
• In what ways do you see we are away from the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah?  How can we get back on track?
• What are your thoughts on the author’s philosophy?

3) Email your responses and your complete contact information to muslimintransit@gmail.com

Requirements

Contact Information should include the following: Name, Phone, Email ID,  Country of Residence, Faith, School/College/University, Your current status at your academic institution e.g. Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, Senior.

Note: Your response could be any form: essay, art, video, audio, poetry, or any other medium but please note that we recommend and highly prefer videos!  Ensure your work is genuine, honest, and authentic. If you do end up writing, please limit your responses to 500 words in Urdu or English.

DEADLINE

December 20th, 2020. Only applications submitted electronically will be accepted and any incomplete applications will be disqualified.
